Redefining Vulnerability
The Struggle of Sharing: What's Your Story?
Read time: 6 minutes
Hey Fab-You-Sis!
Today is Thursday, and we are that much closer to Friday!
We are embarking on a new journey.
A journey of refinement, and I have a question for you:
Have you ever shared a piece of your heart, revealing your deepest vulnerabilities, only to feel exposed and uncertain? How did it transform you, and what profound lessons did you learn from that leap of faith into the world of openness and authenticity?
Well, hunni, today we'll unwrap the layers of sharing our true selves, and shine a light on how vulnerability touches our mental wellness, and dish out some real, actionable ways to live your truth. This journey's all about getting real and deep, embracing those raw, unfiltered parts of ourselves, and seeing just how beautiful and freeing it can be.
Now, for those who might be new here, let me re-introduce myself. I'm Demi Austin Thomas, your guide and confidante on this exhilarating path. I am a Family Dynamics Coach, a former TV correspondent, and a passionate speaker.
My life's mission? To navigate you through the beautiful yet complex world of modern relationships. Are you ready to redefine, reconnect, and reignite the spark in your life? I wasn’t ready either, but let’s go!
Is it Hot In Here, or Am I Struggling With Vulnerability?
I rarely share things that are raw or too vulnerable. Because as a human being in this world, I know how awful people can be. And I know how hard I can be on myself. But today, I will share a little about my struggle with this newsletter.
Creating this newsletter was a journey fraught with uncertainty and self-doubt. The fear of judgment and the anxiety over whether anyone would find value in my words almost stopped me in my tracks.
Because I have a secret: I almost have a panic attack if I have to record audio or video even if I am by myself. Putting myself out there causes me intense anxiety.
I get sweat on my top lip.
My heart starts beating fast.
Then I have sweat on my temples……armpits- I need a fan!
Sweat is running down the middle of my forhead and just like that, I have to touch up my make-up because you KNOW, my face card never declines.
But I have to do this.
It's a testament to the power of vulnerability - the fear of exposing our true selves can be paralyzing. But here we are, a result of pushing through the fear, hoping that this shared experience will resonate with you.
But why does this matter? How does this help you? How does it even help me?
Just thinking about my nerves going haywire, all that sweat and rapid heartbeat – it's a whole workout, y'all! But here's the real deal: This struggle, this sweaty, heart-pounding journey, it's not just about me getting flustered. It's about something bigger. It's about why we need to share our stories, our struggles, our glossy-faced realities. It's about understanding how opening up, and being vulnerable, not only helps us heal but also connects us to others. Now, let’s talk about why sharing our stories truly matters for our well-being. It’s about turning our sweaty moments into moments of strength and connection.
Why Sharing Our Stories Matters for Well-Being
Hunni, listen when we share our stories; we're not just talking; we're healing. It's like giving our hearts a voice. According to mental health experts, opening up helps us process emotions, reduces stress, and can even boost our mood (check out Headspace for more on this). Sharing our stories isn't about perfection; it's about being authentic.
When we bottle up our feelings, it's like shaking a soda can – eventually, it's gonna burst. But when we share, we let out that pressure in a healthy way. It's all about finding your tribe, your safe space to be unapologetically you. Whether it's with friends, family, in therapy, or even writing it down, sharing is caring – for your own soul!
The Ripple Effect of Vulnerability
When we open up, we encourage others to do the same.
It's like a chain reaction of bravery and honesty.
By sharing our vulnerabilities, we're not just helping ourselves; we're lighting the way for others to find their own path to authenticity.
Together, let's embrace this journey of vulnerability. Let's support, learn, and grow as one. Remember, each of us has a story to tell, and each story is a thread in the beautiful tapestry of human experience.
Now, let's dive into some real-talk tips on navigating vulnerability. Remember, each step you take in sharing your story is a step towards a more authentic you.
